For one man to stand behind a simple wooden counter and wiping it down with a towel, it didn't seem like a dream job like he hoped. Derek had been up late last night at a local pub where he worked during the evenings while this afternoon he was just finishing up another day at the grind stone that was the dreaded second job. For a man of twenty-five it certainly wasn't the job that he envisioned for himself when he first left Hogwarts, but that was just what happens when the family had disowned him for betraying their beliefs and at the time having fallen in love with a muggle. Now that love wasn't in the game just yet for the man, Derek could only work the usually two jobs just to earn a living. It was only after his family disowned him that he realized just how hard it was when one didn't have fame or fortune to ease the pain of living on his own. Derek felt relief when he looked up to the magical cloak and it struck the hour to feel joy that another day was over with. Lucky enough he managed to get out of work later tonight just so he could sleep and get a well needed rest right now.
Once Derek had timed out and said his goodbyes to his fellow co-workers, Derek had accidentally snagged his shirt on a loose nail and ripped it which only sent a groan out of his lips. "Just great..." Derek said to himself while shaking his head and walking out the Leaky Cauldron to head into the alleyway. Derek was quite grateful for the Longbottoms for giving him an opportunity to make money before he ended up in the streets. Tapping the few bricks on the wall, he watched and waited while every brick had shifted and moved until a large opening was placed in front of him and Derek had walked straight ahead. There wasn't a lot of time to just sit around and roam when he needed and wanted to get to Gringott's to take a few coins out his vault so that he could afford to get a couple new shirts as it was the third shirt this week that he had managed to ruin by mistake. "Never gets any easier, does it?" Derek mumbled to himself while walking past a few more people and then walked straight into the large white marble building that housed the many vaults that belonged to those in the wizardry community. Looking in each pocket as he slowed his pace to the nearest counter, it took a minute before he finally found the small bronze key that unlocked his vault.
Standing in front of an old goblin that seemed to snarl down at him, Derek looked to him while awaiting him to speak. "I'd like to make a withdrawal." Derek spoke up when the goblin asked him to state his business. From there the goblin had summoned another and quickly he was lead off into the old trolley pathway and before he knew it they were zooming off to his vault. Derek had felt a little ill from the movement of the trolley train before they came to a stop and he awaited the goblin to move first. It didn't take long before the old vault was open and Derek had pocketed a few galleons and sickles, but making sure he didn't take to much since he still had to survive on the money he owned right now. Once he was sure he had enough in his coin pouch, Derek turned away and listened as the vault locked back in place and once again he felt ill from the crazy ride again. Once back in Gringott's, Derek waved goodbye and once more had gone on his way to venture down Diagon alley as the crowd was sparse for once and the sun had seemed to come out to play.
With a smile to himself and the satisfaction that he didn't have to exhaust himself with another late night of work, Derek made his way to Madam Malkin's where he not only needed to get his shirt sewn back up, but he was in need of a few things since he was wearing thin on clothes at the moment. It took a few minutes of just walking in a slow pace before he finally made it inside the shop and looked around as the jingle of the bell above the door had announced his arrival into the shop. There he could only wait for Madam Malkin to arrive which he took to looking around the shop at the many colorful robes and cloaks that hung around. A few other items had filled the racks as well which Derek was more than happy to just look before a shrilly voice had adverted his gaze away from a dark green set of robes to see the kind old witch by the counter. "Ah yes I was wondering if you can repair this shirt and cloak for me. Plus I think I;m going to look around to see if there is anything else that catches my eye." Derek said while the woman just ushered him to give her his cloak which he did and realized that he would have to remove his shirt to get it done.
Sliding his arms to the front, he quickly unbuttoned his shirt from top to bottom before sliding it off his shoulders and gave it up to the woman. Lucky he was wearing a simple white sleeveless t-shirt underneath before he was left with standing around shirtless. Derek could only muster a smirk and a light chuckle at the thought of how much female shoppers would come around if he was standing in front of the large glass window display while shirtless. That last thought was amusing but he had no choice but to advert back to looking around for something that suited him. The more he looked around the more he wished he had a female friend around to least help him out. He really didn't want to ask Madam Malkin for fashion advice which would only make Derek seem more embarrassed and unsure what he would of been thinking had he asked. The jingle of the shop had rung once again and Derek would only take a quick gaze to the door to see who else had been in a mood to buy a few robes as well.
